If I were a plant, I don’t think I would like growing without something pulling me down all the time, but that might be because I’m afraid of heights. And having showers and floods is sure nice (if you’re green and leafy). Consider this update the equivalent of returning to Earth from the International Space Station. Instead of growing straight up as far as possible, the plants will stretch out their bendy branches competing against gravity as you spend 20 hours staring at and splashing around in the meandering water.

Whether or not gravity is necessary is left for you and NASA to decide. Now you have what they don’t — plants without gravity and plumbing in the old demos and a completely flipped situation in the update. That just calls for experimentation!

Moving down from outer space replaced instant appearing-out-of-nowhere water with dynamic water physics. The whole ocean flows in currents, waves break through gaps, and water jets whirl down like the flush of a toilet. As foaming streams spring forth from pumps, they follow natural movement patterns; circulating, whirling, and draining upon running into walls, pits, and other running water. This goes hand in hand with picky moss.

For now, there’s only one species of moss that’s just happy to hang around damp, cooler areas. The relationship between its growth requirements, like sunlight sensitivity, and the ever-changing water dynamics paves a new road to a multifactorial moss simulation.
